Silk Road Fund’s Portfolio Company Sun King Recognized in Prestigious Rankings

Sun King, an African green lighting company invested by Silk Road Fund, received the TIME100 Companies Impact Award as part of Time Magazine’s 2026 list of the world’s 100 most influential companies. The company was also named on the Financial Times’ list of Africa’s Fastest Growing Companies.

Sun King has innovatively developed and promoted high-cost-performance micro-solar lighting solutions. Through a Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) installment model, the company has effectively improved access to electricity in remote areas of Africa. To date, the company has brought clean energy to over 100 million people in Africa, helping low-income families move away from polluting and costly kerosene lamps, while also creating more than 30,000 jobs. A strong and well-established Chinese supply chain has provided a solid foundation for Sun King to deliver high-quality and affordable energy products—a key competitive advantage for the company.
