Silk Road Fund and the Investment Office of the Presidency of Turkey Co-hosted the Roundtable on China-Turkey Investment Cooperation

On the afternoon of July 24, 2023, Chairwoman ZHU Jun, President CAI Xuejun, Turkish Ambassador to China İsmail Hakkı Musa, President of the Investment Office of the Presidency of Turkey Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu, and CEO of Turkey Wealth Fund Salim Arda Ermut co-chaired the Roundtable on China-Turkey Investment Cooperation.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. As one of the first countries that have pledged support to the Belt and Road Initiative, Turkey has been a key investment destination for Chinese companies. To promote bilateral cooperation, 14 Chinese enterprises from the infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, healthcare and technology sectors have been invited to the Roundtable to join the discussion on industrial cooperation and investment opportunities.
In her opening remarks, Chairwoman ZHU Jun reviewed the achievements of China-Turkey economic and trade cooperation in recent years, highlighting that the two economies are highly complementary and have great potential for cooperation in areas including digital economy, sustainable investment, etc. Ambassador Musa underlined the Turkish government’s commitment to building a friendly investment environment and voiced the expectation for enhanced bilateral cooperation in the future. Chairman Dağlıoğlu extended welcome for more Chinese enterprises to invest in Turkey, stressing Turkey’s stable political environment, sound growth momentum and facilitating foreign investment policy incentives. CEO Ermut introduced the mandate and strategic focus of Turkey Wealth Fund, and expressed the willingness to strengthen investment and financing cooperation with financial institutions like Silk Road Fund.
In his closing remarks, President CAI Xuejun introduced the advantage of SRF as a dual-currency fund able to invest in both US dollar and RMB, and expressed the willingness to provide financial support for bilateral cooperation projects in infrastructure, manufacturing, technology and innovation industries via a mix of financing tools centering on equity financing.
During the Roundtable, the Turkish side also made a presentation on Turkey’s attractiveness as an investment destination for Chinese investors and explained relevant policies. Representatives of Chinese enterprises briefed their business operations in Turkey and exchanged views on tax incentives for foreign investment, visa policies and foreign exchange risks with the Turkish side. Through this Roundtable, China and Turkey have enhanced mutual understanding and trust, laying a solid foundation for deeper and wider cooperation.
In the evening, Chairwoman ZHU Jun also attended the reception held by the Turkish Embassy in China in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey.
